3D printing technoloy gives injured tortoise a new shell

    Freddy the tortoise got caught in a bush fire in Brazil which resulted in the loss of 90% of its shell.

       Now thanks to the new 3D printing technology Freddy now has a sparkly new shell and this is all thanks to the Animal Avengers, the animal rescue group.

      The Animal Avengers is six man team comprising of four Vets, one Dental Surgeon and a 3D designer.

       Using 3D printing technology a hull was built for Freddy by the Animal Avengers.

     And to make it more natural so freddy doesn't look like a wierd little tortoise, its new shell was hand printed on to make it as natural as possible.

Japan set to introduce new line of robotic taxis

Robot Taxi Inc., a Tokyo-based company, is gearing up to bring self-
driving robot taxis to Japan’s roads early next year. They’ve invited
residents to try out the taxi service in Fujisawa, in Kanagawa Prefecture.
50 people are all set to take part in the experiment.

According to Robot Taxi, the new cabs will take residents to pre-decided
supermarkets about three kilometers from their homes. A company
attendant will be present in the driver’s seat for safety reasons. The self-
driving cars will be equipped with GPS, millimeter-wave radar, stereo vision
cameras, and image analysis technologies.
The local government is fully supportive of the firm’s initiative, given that
they’ve already tested automated cars on expressways before. But this will
be the first time on local roads with residents. “This time, the robot taxi
experiment will be conducted on actual city streets,” said government
official Yuji Kuroiwa.

Robot Taxi president Hiroshi Nakajima said that this will probably be the
first test in the world to offer automated cars to actual residents for
shopping trips. If the test run next year is successful, it will pave the way
for a broader launch of automated taxis in Japan in 2020. Nakajima also
revealed that the firm plans on testing other applications of the car, like
how it can be used during natural disasters.

“There are a lot of people who say it’s impossible,” said Shinjiro Koizumi,
son of former prime minister Junichiro Koizumi. “But I think this will
happen faster than people expect.”
Robot Taxi is a joint venture between DeNA Co., a maker of video games –
go figure – and ZMP Inc., a developer of automated driving technologies.

Haneefa Adams winner of the #TechMeetsArtNG competition talks about the inspiration behind her winning pieces

     

  

      Hannefa Adams @muslimahanie on Instagram, talks about the inspiratiobehind her award winning food arts. She says "over the past few weeks a lot of people tagged me in the #TechMeetsArtNG competition. So I created the first three pieces to submit. It was actually  pretty racking, I loved what I made and I just wanted them to speak to the viewer as well.

       The first was inspired by the true African beauty, what's cooking is ogbono soup. Using all ingredients of thi South East Nigerian delicacy, this potrait expresses and celebrates the beauty of an African woman and their uniqueness as a vibrant and colourful spirit. She is a beautiful strong womn that wears her deep sense of heritage with pride.

      The second art work inspired by Fela, to celebrate uniqueness and creativity. Qualities that reflect through my art. It celebrates a pioneer and a Nigerian Icon.

      The third art work was inspired by our rich Nigerian culture whi features and celebrates indigenous music and dance, the hibiscus plant(zobo) is used in three ways, as a part in its droplet liquid form(like this Coke art) and the dried purple zobo leaf on its own.

     The Jollof art was inspired by John Boyega's tweets about fried plantain and Jollof. Since it was a star wars day, I decided to make something. I almost gave up actually. Spent a whole day making it and just planning just the day before.

      It was really worth it as he prayed for me(on Twitter) about my kitchen overflowing with jollof and reposted it on his Instagram as well! I'd love to frame it for him though. He is the first person of colour to play a storm trooper in the Star Wars franchise. This art work celebrates him, everybody loves Jollof.

        What I learnt while making these is that, although I have been making mixed media art involving food, plants and other solid items, I never fully explored Nigerian dishes for my food art. The possibilities I discovered now are amazing! looking forward to exploring more of the food medium".
